At India Ink Web Design, our committment to excellence is reflected in our design and development standards. Browse the following pages to learn about specific areas of dedication.
Your site can be any size you need, from a single page to a large, community-driven content management system (CMS). If you update information on your site regularly, a CMS is ideal because it allows you to handle the changes through your web browser instead of a separate program.
Whatever the scope of your site, we will design a unique look and feel tailored specifically to your business or organization. This uniqueness will encompass original graphics and icons, a distinct layout, and an attractive yet professional color palate.
India Ink creates sites that are accessible to a wide range of technologies, including graphical and text-based web browsers, screen readers, and hand-held devices. We strive to follow the U.S. Section 508 Guidelines
for accessibility and the W3C's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
.
What this means for you is that your site will look the same across platforms and browsers and will gracefully degrade to other supported viewers.
Standards exist so the web will work better for everyone. The standards outlined by the W3C include specifications for structure and presentation.
"Lack of uniform support for W3C standards makes using and developing Web-based technologies unnecessarily difficult and expensive." [1]
Web sites that adhere to standards are interoperable and accessible to both machines and people.
We build sites that are template-driven, with independent content that can be edited using your favorite WYSIWYG editor or an intuitive web interface.
Small web sites that do not require a full-blown content management system can still be updated manually by using any web page editor (i.e. Microsoft's FrontPage, and Macromedia's Dreamweaver and Contribute) or simple text editor (i.e. Notepad). The "content" is kept separate from the rest of the site to make updates as easy as possible.
Finally, modularity means new features can easily be added to your web site through an extensible interface. Examples of modular features include an event calendar, contact database, glossary of terms, image gallery, and site search capability.
We develop web sites primarily under Linux, using the Apache HTTP Server, with dynamic content stored in a MySQL database, and program logic written in PHP or Python. This core set of technologies is referred to as LAMP, and is an industry standard "solution stack" due to its low cost and stability.
We do not, however, use the stability of these components to dismiss the importance of regular backups. In the event of partial or total data loss or corruption, you will have the opportunity to select from a range of backups for both your site files and database.
